Travel disruption insurance protects you if something beyond your control stops you from travelling, disrupts your holiday or forces you to cut your trip short. It comes standard in all our single-trip and annual multi-trip travel insurance policies, but may be subject to when you bought your policy or booked your trip.

It covers you for things like missed flights because of car trouble, public transport cancellations or delays, and unexpected travel delays caused by strikes*, bad weather, or transport breakdowns.

It might also cover your travels if the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) advises against ‘all’ or ‘all but essential’ travel to your holiday destination because of earthquakes, fires, floods or hurricanes.

However, it doesn’t protect against war or conflict situations. This is where our Travel Disruption Extension add-on can help.

Yes, but only under certain conditions. If you take out a Signature policy or our Travel Disruption Extension add-on right after making your holiday booking, then you will be covered if war, conflict, or civil unrest breaks out in your destination country.

The war, conflict or civil unrest can’t already be taking place, or be widely known about, or be expected to happen when booking your trip or buying your travel insurance. So, you can’t buy Travel Disruption Extension to cover you for countries that are currently at war.

You also won’t be covered if you travel to your holiday destination after the FCDO or WHO advises against it. Any participation in civil unrest or conflict will also invalidate your cover.

If war breaks out in your holiday destination while you are there, we will do everything we can to help you return home safely and swiftly. However, if you have a reasonable opportunity to go home and you don’t, it may jeopardise your cover.
